Dear ALL,

I have finally decided to move to something more independent of any blogspaces around. My own URL. Thank God there was no other Umar Pirzada around to take up my first choice URL…

Its an amateur effort if you talk about specialist web-designing and all. I don’t know my way around developing a good attractive website so the main page is a real low-class crude image of what I really wanted…with some Ads (no fun otherwise…)

The main page has options to take you to my new personal blog address and also some other places where I blog. This is my first attempt to running a website seriously and everything will continue to improve as I get more into it.

This is to announce the launching of Mayg & UTP - The Blog. It was something that me and my wife wanted to for quite some time which was to have a shared blog. We do have a story to tell and we think we are pretty good story tellers. So thats the inspiration and the result is the above blogspace. Direct your browsers to the above.

Been quiet here...

Its been quiet at this blog SPOT...for quite some time. Shortage of time is the first excuse and whatever I do get, I blog at my wordpress blog. Anyway, this SPACE was going to be my family area and more about updates regarding myself and my family. As I once wrote earlier also heheh...I do not know how many people really would be interested. Well anyway...it was 16th Jan a few days back...my daughter's 2nd birthday.

I dont know if people remember her 1st birthday and its strange I did not feel the same vigour I did then. I have been asking myself the same since the day. I am a bit sad that she is growing up itni jaldi. I am worried I wont enjoy it to the full and she would be gone to her own things all grown up.

My wife bought a few story books from Pakistan on our last visit and one of the stories was of the caterpillar who turns into a butterfly. I was lucky enough to be the first one to read it with my daughter. She has become really curious and entered the age where she understands the stories we tell her so I had to be animated and make her understand. Least did I know that during the story, I would get real sad considering my little caterpillar is growing up and will soon become a butterfly and fly away...

Our lives are all about setting goals and achieving them and then setting some more. It is very important that people set their priorities right cos you dont want to waste time and effort chasing after something you really didnt want. In that way other than the fact that you wasted time and effort you also missed out on doing something you really would have liked to do...

Anyway, there was a project that was going on in our lives. When I say "our", I mean my family...all of them...namely baba, ammi, saad, mayg and mahnoor....yes I missed out my sister on purpose cos that was what the project was all about...Ghazal...my dear sister...graduates on the 6th....and its a proud moment for all of us....

Other than her own efforts put in towards the biggest goal on her to-do list in recent times there were individual efforts put in by each member of the family in every way possible to get this team project....achieve its completion....its been a team effort and here I would like to congratulate the family...each one of you...

and Ghazal...my dear sister...I wish all the best...now you are on your way...these are the exact words a great man in "our" lives said...only he said it when I crossed matric and he wasn't around to see me through FAST....I am sure if he were around he would have said the same...

By the way I didnt come up with the title line...its from my all time greatest movie series....ROCKY...

The above song is the soundtrack for the next month...with my wife and daughter travelling to Pakistan. I will be joining them after a month for my first vacation after moving to Dubai. Sigh...I never though it would be so quiet...in the house...I am somehow used to their presence....

Just left them at the airport...turned the radio on and the above song played....almost sounded like for me....

Dubai is definitely jawaan and haseen...in any sense you want it to be....literary, emotionally, philosophically...but....

The GAP in between blogging...

Its been quite some time since I wrote and the only reason being that I shifted and was out of Internet access. Have revived the access and have created another blog also. Here is what I will do now.

umarpirzada.spaces.live.com will be the place where you will mostly find stuff about me. So no use visiting here again if you are not interested about knowing stuff about me. Over a period of time, this will become a place for family and friends only, I think. Or maybe Stalkers hehehe...

Qualified UAE Driver...

Yes people...its done...the Dubai Blessing...the hurdle...the money extracting sponge is DONE and OVER WITH...I have passed the driving test....

It is one of the most desirable and most difficult to achieve thing in Dubai these days...not to mention the money involved... I have cleared the test in my second attempt...Alhumdulillah and what a relieved guy I am...only I know...

For the benefit of everyone...I ll summarize...the process and money involved...

For people holding a license of their country...they have to get it attested...from the respective consulate of their country here...and they will have compulsory 20 classes for training....if no license then 40 classes...before u get a test.....date

Each class costs from 50 to 60 AED....and if you like own timings classes..it can go up to 80AED....so you can see its no small deal financially...

for first timers..u hve to give a parking test, a signal test...and a road test....for old timers...only a signal and road....each test costs its own fees....

If you fail the test....extra 7 classes and the test fees...around 500AED everytime ufail...and a one month's wait...also...

But not to worry....with confidence and a few pointers from your trainer...anybody can clear the test...it takes dedication thats all...

Anyway....not planning to jump towards buying a car...have to weigh my options...budgeting etc...lots to think about...but at least ONE STEP AHEAD now...Alhumdulillah...

My Silkworm

I never told anyone about my SILKWORM. She is my little cuddly caterpillar who squirms when I tickle...New dads can try it with their newborns if they feel in control. This can only be done when the babies have grown up enough to handle their necks themselves...

Yes I am talking about my daughter...my SILKWORM...

Here is what u do to make a human SilkWorm...u pick her up with ur hands under the armpits and rib area....and while holding her above u...YOU GO TICKLE TICKLE....heheh....be gentle its just a baby....go left first and she would squirm left then....go tickle right....she would squirm...right....

With constant motion of the above you have just created your SILKWORM baby...hehehe....she loves...it...and so do i...

Just that she has gone heavy now so i need to build up more muscles...to pick her up and keep her there for as long as she enjoys heheh....

Sigh....it wont be long before my caterpillar turns into a butterfly and fluttters by to more happier grounds....I miss her already...

but there you have it...your baby SILKWORM....ENJOY!!!

I used to wonder how to get into an MNC....I am not kidding...I couldnt ever imagine myself joining a big shot company somehow...and I was always one step behind...sort of a loser....who wouldnt always look like somebody from outside the crowd....like never considered myself MNC material....

I wont tell anyone how...but I got some FAITH in myself from an inspiration...and things changed....

I am Alhumdulillah now working for a pretty good Multinational Company and leave MNC material...the aspirations in my head are going for the skies...I think I have reached a point where I am at a stage where I am thinking things I had only imagined I would think....frankly...I like it here.....and plan to stay here for a while...

Now I know what its like...now I know what happens inside MNCs woooh...sounds like such a special thing hehe....it was when I was on the outside...but now I know...it wasnt a big deal...if you were made to make it....you eventually do make it...and then even that is not the end...its another beginning....

I think thats how life is...you get awed by things you dont have...and when you get em you get awed by something else...have you ever thought if you could be someone else....who would you be? and how it would be like? Talk about being FARIGH...(free)

I am certainly not...these people make you work for every penny they pay you....and these past few weeks have been MUCH MORE than I have ever taken ever...so getting used to the load...cos I know if Allah has brought me to it...He will bring me through it as well....

and now that I know...I have just realized...I know a lot more just by knowing...this...

Dubai ETC

SALIK ....anybody who is DUBAI or in the thereabouts would know what this means....

This is the new TOLL that has been introduced in Dubai which will charge AED 4.00 for every time you cross a specific place...these have been installed at 2 places at the moment and only God knows how many they would install. So much for being a tax free zone ...they are heading towards extracting as much money as possible from the people...

Considering 80% population is Ex-Pat a lot of the money earned is taken outside the country...not good...they ve realized now...so up go the rents...and license for anything is difficult to get and you spend a certain amount before something is achieved....its not the same Dubai as it was a few years back....

But anyway....i am sure no one is going to name their kids SALIK for a while in DUBAI heheh...cos it has only increased the traffic problems in Dubai... Iam still in the process of getting a driving license...after failing once...still wondering...whether i m doing the right thing...I guess I am...as my manager said today...if you plan to stay for a longer period...you need a car...and hence the license...

Anyway...hadnt blogged for a while...cos have become part of the routine...enjoying work a lot so that keeps me busy with late sittings hence tired...when i get home...

Have got TV installed that is...dish installed...we get 300 ARAB channels hehhe....7-8 are watchable and understandable...but its better than nothing....i ll get cable installed once I move to a more settled place...this place is quite temporary ....all is dependent on the car it seems...

The next post will be on the state of the art NEW HQ that is being made...for our company...ITS AMAZING...deserves a seperate post...

The advantage for working with the main sponsor of the World Cup Champions, you get to take a picture with the trophy...hehhe...Check out the pics...its just me and the WORLD CUP TROPHY...!!!

This is the closest a Pakistani can get to the trophy this year hehehe....man we sucked this world cup....we wouldnt have made headlines at all if we didnt have the woolmer tragedy...sigh....anyway...just thought of sharing...

Its been quite some time since I wrote about my daughter. That doesnt mean at all that there hasnt been stuff....she is just growing up so wonderfully Alhumdulillah and making us all happy and proud every day of our lives...

Shes started doing new things and has moved a step forward from the FIRST syllable language and now has a lot more words in vocabulary and uses them also on the right occasions...

But the best thing that she has started doing is "THE BABA COME HOME HUG", Oh boy I look forward to it all day long at work....I get home, the door opens and before I could keep the things in my hands anywhere....there comes my little doll running....and gives a good hug...and I mean good...its with all the complete antics....with her head on my shoulder and cute & soft murmurs...of AWWW...!!! Also the gentle THAPKIs on my back...oh boy...

It refreshes me up...after a long day of work...with the cute little hug it just freshens me up so much that I could actually go back to work...again at that time....only...and come back for another HUG heheh....

Today I cheekly fooled her into an extra HUG for the day hehe being greedy and all....I came out of the bathroom and with the whole ASSALAM-o-ALAIKUM cycle making her feel like I have come from work and there she goes.....RUNNING and hugging me....I sneaked up on her and got another big hug...

So now I know, its the ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM routine that I run that triggers the HUG...but she is smart I cant fool her too much. I cant overdo it otherwise I will lose out on the daily hug also....

Oh Alhumdulillah...for this blessing and so many more blessings...Alhumdulillah!!!

Making it Work...

Sometimes all one needs is to slow down maybe even stop to take a breather and evaluate whats happening around him. What happens is we go running around chasing things and moving towards getting them and there are so many of them that you lose track and get frustrated. As things seem to go farther away with the distributed focus we only get more frustrated...thats when one needs to realize that its time to stop and smell the roses....

Thats what I have done. I just realized this last weekend as to how so many things have been bothering me and I havent dont anything about it. Alhumdulillah, this weekend helped me sort out a lot of things and I feel refreshed. At least a break in thoughts and putting the pieces in place to continue the process has got me back on track.

Its amazing how nothing seems right and when you look at it one-by-one and settle it, it looks so simple. So many people depend on you just like you do on them and it all seems more positive now... To make it work its YOU who has to make the effort....

I am back...absolutely on track...May Allah guide me through...

Explanation:

In the above excerpt Baba Bullay Shah compares us with the dogs in the night...they are awake in the night also just like us but they dont leave their Masters door. No matter if they are get beaten or treated badly. They will eat whatever is given to them whether it is dry bread or whatever. It doesnt matter. They would sleep and wake at the same door. Addressing himself Bulley Shah says lets go and make our Love (Lord) happy otherwise the Dogs have won this competition. We have lost to the dogs.

As crude as it sounds, it is that. We move away from the Lord as and how the life gets difficult. Our faith grows weaker when look at the dogs. At least they keep their masters happy. No matter how tough it gets. No matter what the hardships, they know at the end of the day that is where the food is going to come from. The solution is there only.

Yes people. I have been labeled a miser finally. This comes from a vote which counts a lot in my life. After all the practical approaches to life and how not to spend more than what you earn and yet be able to live contented is gone. Umar Pirzada is a miser.

I cant breathe if I have a loan on my head. I guess people live with that, I will have to learn also. I guess thats the way of life. Leased car, leased house, credit card etc etc. Why should I not have what everyone else has? Why not spend on my child and family like everyone else does? Thats the standard of living that one should have. It doesnt matter how much you make, its how much you CAN make?

Sigh...after trying to do so much and killing myself and my WANTs for everyone, I realize that I have become a miser. I think a million times before spending that extra dime. I cant see money wasted. I just am left in a very confused state of mind currently. But there is a lot of good in this also... I realize....

This means that I can work on it. How to go about it? Make more? Spend a bit more? Can I spend that 'bit' more? Umm...lots to think about. I feel guilty of dragging everybody else who counts on me into this as well. I cant decrease the standard of living for my dependents...I stand confused...May Allah guide me to safety and a content soul...

There is a fine line between being a MISER and being SMART & Practical....where is that line? Lots of thinking to do...
